Choosing A Computer:
Purchasing a new computer can at first seem like a daunting experience; however it is much the same as buying any new item for the home, such as a new television or washing machine, even a new car. Primarily it needs to meet your requirements & be within your budget. Here are some general guidelines and recommendations to help you navigate through the choices. Remember, you dont have to be a boffin to use a computer, if you can use a mobile phone or a TV remote then you're well on your way to mastering computers.
When it comes to choosing a computer firstly you have to ask yourself; what will I be using this computer for? Will you just want to send the occasional email, browse the web and run simple software? Or will you want to run specialised software such as CAD or video editing suites?
Once you have decided what the computers is needed for, you then have to decide if you want a laptop or a desktop computer. Are you always on the go or office based?
And then there are the choices between computers, will you want a PC which runs Microsoft Windows, or would you prefer a MAC, or perhaps you may even like to use LINUX as an operating system.
Once you've taken on board the various choices above, the next important thing is the size of the memory inside your computer. Memory will determine how quickly your computer will perform tasks. Generally the more memory the faster the computer.
The next task is to decide on the type of processor and what size hard drive you will require. The size of the hard drive will depend on the type of data you store on the computer.
