Connecting to Broadband

When Broadband was first launched, it was a case of having an engineer call out to connect you. Now, broadband providers supply self-install kits. When ordering broadband, check what your chosen provider will be sending you. Here's what you need to do:
  • Plug a Broadband modem into your PC (normally via a USB socket),
  • Plug a filter into your standard BT phone socket,
  • Plug the Broadband modem into the ADSL socket of the filter.
Installing Broadband

In order to receive broadband, you need:
  1. To be in an area of broadband coverage.
  2. Signed up with a company to provide you with broadband.
  3. Have a Broadband router or modem.
If you are unsure if you can get broadband in your area please call us and we will check.

Once you have signed up for your account, there's normally around a five to ten day wait, while BT make the appropriate changes to your phone service at the BT exchange. After that, you'll be switched on to Broadband. Here's a summary of a typical broadband connection:

Day 1: Order placed for Broadband with chosen service provider. A basic check was done on our line.

Day 7: Broadband enabled. Modem/router, disc, microfilter and setup instructions delivered from broadband provider.

Here's how to get connected:
  • Start your PC, and insert the supplied software disc.
  • Plug the supplied microfilter into the phone socket (you also need microfilters for other handsets/equipment in your house, as above).
  • Plug the modem's phone lead into the ADSL port of the filter.
  • Plug the modem's USB lead into a spare USB port on the PC.

From the start menu on your computer, start up the supplied software, and enter the account details supplied by your broadband provider. You should just have a username and password - unlike a dialup account, there's no phone number.

Top tip: Keep your log in details somewhere safe for future reference.
