Smartphones
Would you like to send and receive emails, search the net and more - but you don’t have a computer? Feel isolated on the road because you don’t have a GPS?
Why not try a ‘smartphone.’
Smartphones combine the functionality of mobile phones, PDAs, wireless PCs, MP3 player, sat nav and even digital cameras in one handset, making them a powerful tool both for business and pleasure.
Some of the more common functions a smartphone can perform are:
- Send and receive mobile phone calls, text messages – many smartphones also have WI-FI capability (locates wireless internet connections located in places like McDonalds and service stations).
- Sends and receives e-mails.
- Satellite navigation – built in maps and directions.
- MP3 player.
- Communicate with desktop and laptop computers.
- Synchronise data with applications such as Microsoft Outlook.
- Instant messaging, e.g. MSN or Yahoo, or AIM. (real time chat)
- Applications such as word processing, calculator or spreadsheet programs.
- Access the internet via an internet browser.
Before purchasing a smartphone (or any mobile) check that your area has G3 mobile coverage. Ask your supplier or check on the internet for detailed coverage maps.
